Valentines day is coming up… many of you messaged us asking for sustainable options for cards.
We’ll try to find a few more alternatives however here is a fantastic option using cardboard you already own.

Valentine’s Day is coming up in two weeks. If you’re looking to make something personal and from scratch, why not write a card or letter on your own homemade paper? This was so fun to make. I’m thinking of pressing flower petals to my next batch!

I’m sorry. All I can think of is Danny DeVito’s Penguin character, in Batman! ? Piecing all of the shredded material together...It’s when I zoomed in on the first step. I got Penguin feels! ? It took all of his patience! This is great though. ?

receipt? like a bill? Most of them have a thin layer of BPA on them. I wouldn't recommend using them for this project if you want to avoid plastic s***. :/ u can't recycle them like paper

@imben_zene Heya, sorry my handwriting is just terrible. This is a step by step. First, you collect and save all kinds of cardboard, paper, and paper-related items. Make sure you remove all the cello tape and staples from the paper. Second, you cut all the paper into strips, about 1-2cm thick. Third, you soak all this in a box with water overnight the amount of water doesn’t really matter, but I think 1 part paper 2 parts water is a good way to go. Fourth, you blend the mixture with a hand blender until it becomes fully mixed. Fifth, you attach a metal mesh to an old frame you don’t use and run the frame through the mixture until it is covered with the mixture. Sixth, you take a sponge and gently press the mixture to soak up the excess water. Make sure to be as gentle as possible so that you don’t tear the paper. I found that if you roll the sponge in the outward direction, that helps keeping the paper from tearing. Last, you gently peel the diy paper from your mesh and set it on a towel to dry next to a heater. Here are some notes that might be useful: 1) only cut up and blend paper that you’ll want to turn into diy paper. The amount of paper sheets you make depends on how many heaters and towels you have to let them dry on. 2) The sponge process takes quite long and tests your patience, especially when you’re new to it. You’ll find that you’ll rip a lot of the paper in your first try, but don’t worry, just keep trying. 3) you can add natural colouring to the paper by shaving some stones or rocks. I’ve not done this before, but my friend has!

I don’t know if someone asked already, but if you do the flower petals, would you mix them in with the paper mush, or add them during the pressing of the paper?
